What is the best fitness equipment that would help an overweight lady in her 40s to get thinner....and fast?

What is the best fitness equipment that would help an overweight lady in her 40s to get thinner....and fast?
i want to get something for my mom. i thought the treadmeal was the best but my other sister said it would make pains for her on the knees and would be difficult.
is there anything that would help her lose weight on her stomach precisely?

Elliptical is definitely easier on the knees than treadmill. I find that a recumbent bike is even better. You sit on the bicycle seat and reach your legs out in front of you to push the pedals. It gives a good cardio workout, and burns lots of calories. If she wants even better calorie loss, she can hold small weights in her hands (or strap them to her wrists) and do coordinated arm movemnts while she pedals. Tip: if she sets up a small fan nearby, she'll be cooler and possibly exercise longer.

Unfortunately, there's no way to spot-reduce. Some exercises will bulk up particular areas... like thighs, butt, and upper arms -- but you can't target your fat loss. I wish I could!!

What is the name of the fitness equipment that sends pulses of electricity thru muscles at regular intervals?

What is the name of the fitness equipment that sends pulses of electricity thru muscles at regular intervals?
hi i borrowed some fitness equipment from a friend some time ago (who has now thrown it out), it has two electrodes that stick to the selected muscle and then sends small regular pulses of electricity thru the muscle to tone and strengthen it.

What are Cardiovascular Exercises? How do we do them in home without any fitness equipment?

What are Cardiovascular Exercises? How do we do them in home without any fitness equipment?

The following is a short list of the most common forms of cardiovascular exercise, with the advantages and disadvantages of each one. This is by no means a definitive list. If you do something that's not on the list and it works for you, keep doing it.
Common Cardiovascular Activities

Walking
______________________________________...
Walking is probably the most common form of cardio. People all over the world do it everyday. It is very low-impact and can be done for hours on end, making it perfect for low-intensity, long-duration aerobic training. Fast walking can even get your heart-rate up into the aerobic training zone (70%) if you really push it or walk up hills.
This is the form of cardio most often recommended for beginning exercisers, as it is very easy and not stressful to the body at all. Walking shoes can be a good idea if you plan on walking a lot. If you use hand weights while you are walking, be aware that studies have shown no difference in calories burned, strength or bodyfat as compared to people who did not use hand weights.

Running/Jogging
______________________________________...
This is classic cardio and probably the first thing people think of when they think of getting in shape. Running can be done on the road, on a track, on a treadmill, through the woods, etc. All you need is a pair of shoes. Running is a very natural activity, one that the body was built to do.
Running is also very effective at reducing hip size. It is a very high-impact activity though, and very overweight people would be better off with something less jarring such as fast walking, cycling or swimming. As with anything, start off slowly and gradually work up your speed and distance until you get where you want to be. Running can also be a very social activity if you have a running partner or join a running club.
But beware, here are some preformance tips that can help you...
• Be careful when running down hills, as the impact is much greater. Overuse injuries due to excessive running are often caused by running downhill.
• Ensure your foot is landing straight and is not splaying out to the side or inward.
• If you get abdominal cramps while running you have a few options: stop and let it fade, stretch it out a little while running, massage the area, press on the area with your fingers or use your fist and punch the spot lightly. Cramps are caused by localized circulation difficulties. These strategies will help increase the circulation.
• Get good shoes.
• Allow your torso to rotate when striding. This will lengthen your stride and tighten up your waist as a bonus.
• Keep your body erect and do not allow yourself to hunch over.
• Don't bounce up too high when running. The goal is forward motion, not excessive up and down motion.
• Don't run in areas where air pollution is bad. Running gets air into the really deep passages of your lungs. You don't want to saturate those areas with pollution.

Why does the equipment in a fitness studio need electricity?

Why does the equipment in a fitness studio need electricity?
Is there a good reason the person using it can't produce the electricity via a small electrical generator? Why can't users of a fitness studio through their activity not produce enough electricity to run the electrics for the whole building? Or at least of the piece of equipment one is using?

This is less of an engineering question and more of an economics question. Most companies that build fitness equipment are not in the electronics industry. Thus it is much simpler for the firms to put out equipment that uses simple off the shelf components that plug into the wall. The circuitry and parts needed to do this are not ready to go in an easy to use fashion for a company that doesn't really do much electronics engineering. Someday these types of packages might become widely available and be put into just about everything. If/When that day comes I am sure they will be implemented into the treadmill. Right now such a system would add a large cost into the treadmill, which will partially offset the monetary gains made by supplying its own power. A lot of time and effort would need to go into this system, so it is not just the additional component costs that have to be added in. Remember workout equipment often times is beat on and shaken a lot, so the electronics would also have to be somewhat rugged. Also, thing about something like a treadmill, it takes quite a lot of power to turn the path beneath you. This means that the energy storage system would have to be massive. This again adds a lot to the cost.

So to sum it up, it comes down to the economics. It would cost a lot, have very little short term gain (extra expense of machines), would take much longer to produce due to the larger engineering problem, and would wind up being bigger and taking up more space in the gym.

Maybe i was not very clear..I was just wondering if this machine is a good machine.
I realize free weights yield better results and combining machines and weights is the best.
Anyone know of this machine?

You'd be better off spending your money on a bench and a barbell - ideally a bench which also has catchers which double as a squat rack.

Free weights is the way to go if you want quality results.
